Opayo Background
Opayo is the new name for Sage Pay and is the UK trading name for Elavon who now own the business. The roots of Opayo payment services go back to 2001 to when Protx was formed, and they were accredited to deliver online payments by most major UK banks. In 2006 Sage acquired Protx and it became Sage Pay in 2009.
In 2012, Sage Pay expanded into the card machine payment market by acquiring Integral Computers Ltd. In 2017 in partnership with Oracle, Sage Pay develops an integrated payment solution for restaurants, bars and hotels. In 2020 Sage Pay is acquired by Elavon, a global payment provider and a subsidiary of the US Bank and is rebranded Opayo.
Opayo continues to offer online payments, card machines, point of sale equipment and over the phone payments which can be integrated and can interact with Sage accounts.
